First published in 1972, 1080 Recetas de Cocina is the most recognised cookbook in Spanish domestic history. A book that has passed from mother to daughter across generations, stained, quietly authoritative.
"The book most Spanish kitchens can't do without."
The redesign was undertaken as an academic exercise at ESDESIGN Barcelona, exploring how a national culinary reference could be brought into a contemporary editorial language without losing the warmth and authority that made it beloved.
A cover built from tiles, like the walls of a Spanish kitchen
Rather than photograph food, the redesign draws from the visual world around the food: the azulejería of Andalusian kitchens, the illuminated capitals of pre-modern Spanish manuscripts, and the woven textures of traditional textile.
The cover is composed as a repeating ceramic-tile grid on a deep midnight ground, with a central ornament that operates as a visual anchor and recurs throughout the interior of the book, tying identity to content across every chapter.
